Welcome to my virtual creative space! I’m Lindsay Brown—a wife, mom, writer, art teacher, pottery studio manager, and lifelong learner. This isn’t your typical blog about popsicle stick crafts or painting tips (thank goodness!). Here, I’ll share the messy, beautiful journey of balancing creativity, teaching, and life itself.
When I started dreaming about this blog, I couldn’t decide what to focus on. Should it be about teaching? Pottery? The time I rode in a Los Angeles Class Fast Attack Submarine? In the end, I decided to embrace all of it—like mixing paint colors on a palette. Some days will lean toward Picasso; others might feel more like Michelangelo.
My journey has been anything but linear. I began as a lifestyle editor for a Midwest newspaper, covering incredible stories and meeting fascinating people. When the Great Recession hit, I pivoted to marketing for a women’s and children’s hospital. After baby number two, I found myself at a crossroads. A knock on the door changed everything—a friend handed me a latte and convinced me to teach preschool with her.
That’s where my love for teaching began. I wasn’t afraid of the mess, and I discovered the joy of exploring art with children. We painted under tables, created with clay, and smeared paint with our fingers. It was magical.
After teaching preschool and giving piano lessons to nearly 30 students, I landed in my current role: elementary art teacher to almost 800 students in a Title I district. Along the way, I earned a Master of Arts in Elementary Education, took pottery classes, and joined a studio. That studio became a second home, introducing me to talented artists from all walks of life. Today, I manage that very studio, blending my passion for teaching and creativity.
At some point, the threads of my life—family, teaching, art, and pottery—wove together into something deeply meaningful. Teaching and working with clay often serve as mirrors for life itself: messy, challenging, but incredibly rewarding.
This blog is a celebration of that journey. Whether you’re an artist, teacher, or someone navigating life’s beautiful chaos, I hope you’ll find inspiration here. Let’s create something meaningful together!
I love to TRAVEL! Italy is my favorite, but Hawaii is a close second. I'd love to have conversations about all things travel with you!
I love CREATING! Coming soon - a gallery with some of my favorite creations. You can see my beginnings, my middles and the pieces I threw in the trash can. It's a journey - some pieces are timeless treasures while others were lessons that helped us get to where we're going.
